Main duties of the job

As a Peer Support Worker, you will use your own lived experience of mental health challenges in an appropriate and purposeful way to build positive relationships with people accessing the service. You will promote hope, recovery, independence and connection, helping individuals recognise their strengths and develop strategies that support their wellbeing. A key part of this role will be planning, facilitating and supporting our regular group sessions. You will take a lead in creating engaging, inclusive and supportive groups for people accessing Rotherham Safe Space.

As an IAPT Qualified PWP, you will play a key role in providing high-volume, low-intensity assessments and evidence-based interventions to people experiencing common mental health difficulties, including anxiety and depression. You will accept referrals into the service, undertake telephone and face-to-face screening and assessments, and support people to self-manage their recovery. You will work collaboratively with service users to identify their goals and support them to make positive changes. Your role will include delivering a range of evidence-based low-intensity interventions, including guided self-help, courses and computerised CBT, alongside providing information and support regarding psychological and pharmacological treatments where appropriate. You will work closely with colleagues across the service to ensure appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place, maintaining an effective stepped-care approach. - A PWP qualification from a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited PWP programme or apprenticeship.
- If qualifying through an apprenticeship route, successful completion of the apprenticeship end-point assessment.

As part of your clinical practice, you will support the screening and triaging of referrals, conduct assessments and provide a combination of face-to-face and remote low-intensity interventions. You will receive comprehensive support throughout your training, including clinical and caseload supervision. The training programme will consist of a minimum of 1 day of face-to-face university teaching, 1 day of self-directed study and 3 days of clinical practice each week. Successful applicants will be required to commence service induction on Monday 25 January 2027, in preparation for the university course commencing on Wednesday 3 February 2027.
