Job summary
High Lane Medical Centre is looking for an experienced receptionist/administrator to work in a busy GP surgery based in High Lane. Previous experience is desired along with experience of practice IT systems; EMIS, DOCMAN, ACCURIX and TQuest.
Minimum of 24 hours over three days; Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Mondays 8-1pm, Thursdays and Fridays 8-6pm with half hour lunch.
Remuneration
From £24,784.50 pro rata per annum, dependent on experience.
Main duties of the job
As first point of contact for patients and visitors. The receptionist managesthe front desk and greets all visitors to the surgery, answering any queries and enquiries and taking messages for the wider team. Answering the phones, scheduling appointments and monitoring the patient flow to the consulting and treatment rooms. They must demonstrate confidence, have a pleasant personality and possess good communication skills, creating a positive first impression.
About us
High Lane Medical Centre is situated in a semi-rural area, 10 mins from Stockport and 30 mins from Manchester. We are a forward-thinking training practice, supportive of continued education, personal development and focused on providing high quality patient care to approx. c.7,500 patients. You will be joining an enthusiastic, well led and innovative practice team comprising: a principal GP, eight assistant part-time GPs, practice manager, six receptionists, 2 administrators, two secretaries, two practice nurses and a healthcare assistant. We have 2 small residential care homes and a large number above average of elderly patients.
Our local federation is Viaduct Care who provide us with a pharmacy hub team, seasonal respiratory hub clinics, First Contact Practitioner (physio), Well-being Coordinator, Mental Health practitioner, and additional care coordinators. We host other services, in house; minor surgery, Midwifery services, Ultrasound, Audiology, joint injections, coil insertions and implants.
We were ranked No. 1 surgery in England in 2022. Our last CQC rating was GOOD in 2020. We were recently ranked joint number 1 practice in Greater Manchester, and 12th In England. We are an active member of our local Primary Care Network which includes practices from Marple, Romiley and Hazel Grove.

- Monitor flow of patients into consulting and treatment rooms.
- Register immediately necessary patients, temporary residents and patients from abroad who need to be seen same day onto surgery database. Ensure sufficient information is recorded and patients receive a practice leaflet detailing our services.
- Import registration request documents into the docman system from Email, for the workflow clerk to complete.
- Advise patients of the practices policies and procedures as requested with particular regard to emergency prescriptions and urgent appointments.
- Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and record details.
- Action prescriptions requests and amend any alteration to medication necessary as advised by Doctor.

- Advise patients of contact numbers when requesting ambulance transportation.

You will help patients aged 18+ navigate non-medical needssuch as supporting patients with long term conditions, loneliness, mental wellbeing, debt, housing concerns, or physical inactivity. Rather than focusing purely on medical symptoms, you will give people the time and a safe space to explore "what matters to me" and connect them to empowering local community groups and support networks.
