Job summary
You will be primarily based at Newtown Hospital, where you will provide a warm and welcoming first point of contact for patients attending the service. Alongside your reception and patient-facing duties, you will also drive GPs safely to and from home visits across the surrounding area, supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care in the community.
Our Requirements:
- Have possessed a full UK driving license for a minimum of 3 years.
- Be over 25 years of age for vehicle insurance purposes.
- Familiar with the use of Sat navigation, with good knowledge of local geography.
- Confident using a variety of IT programmes.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Flexible, reliable, self-motivated, and resourceful.
Main duties of the job
Your duties will include
- Transporting the Duty GP/Clinicians to all home visits
- Checking diagnostic equipment and clinical bags used by GPs is present and in working order
- Ensuring surgeries are set up and fully equipped in readiness for patients
- Welcoming and greeting patients attending the Primary Care Centre, acting as a first point of contact
- Supporting with administrative tasks, such as handling telephone calls, arranging conference calls, faxing prescriptions and admission letters
- Ensuring the Centre and vehicles are kept clean and tidy

- Hours of Work:An average of 13.81 hours per week on a regular shift pattern (additional hours often available), primarily night shifts (approx. between 12am and 8am). Flexibility is available with hours worked, shift patterns are provided with a min. of 6 weeks notice in advance, some flexibility will be required to meet the demands of the role.

JOB PURPOSE
To support the clinician in ensuring that the patient pathway is completed within laid down timescale in accordance with policy, procedure and working instruction. The postholder will be responsible for supporting the continuing provision of first-class care for all our patients through ensuring reception, administrative and driving duties are undertaken efficiently and effectively.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To act as receptionist at the base, managing patient appointments, supporting Clinicians with administrative tasks, and supporting and managing patients through their experience with Shropdoc.
To liaise with Despatch in the Call Centre and your Clinician to ensure that base appointments and home visits are completed in a timely fashion.
To drive the Shropdoc vehicle to home visits in a safe and competent manner.
To ensure that all kit is checked and available for both home and base appointments.
To ensure that vehicles are checked prior to any visits so that they are safe and roadworthy.
BASE - Duties and Responsibilities
To ensure that the base is set up and ready for patients at the beginning of the shift. All computers to be logged in and all essential kits ready and available.
To ensure that base email account is checked and anything relevant is actioned, all phone lines are connected, and printers are operational.
All clinical kit is checked in conjunction with the Kit Checking and Sealing Process.
To appropriately record all drug and sundry usage across the shift using the relevant stock control method and in conjunction with Medicines Management Policy.
To support your Clinician with administrative tasks, such as scanning paperwork, emailing information or making phone calls
To be responsible for greeting patients at bases and promptly recording their arrival on clinical software and ensure that should a patient not attend that it is promptly reported to Despatch.
To ensure that all infection control procedures are stringently followed in line with relevant policy and maintain a continuously clean and tidy environment.
To carry out basic first response and fault-finding following failure of systems/technical equipment.
To provide clear and specific details to Despatch when reporting issues that require further investigation.
To log any incidents that occur on shift via Radar (for example, health and safety incidents, safe-guarding concerns etc).
To advise Clinicians of any drug or sundry shortages.
To witness the removal and re-stock of controlled drugs and sign your agreement.
To check the presence and function of all diagnostic equipment, replacing batteries or reporting any faulty items.
To keep Despatch appraised of clinical workload and any delay in seeing patients.
To always maintain security of the base, including ensuring that the drugs cupboard remains locked, and that no patient identifiable data is accessible.
To follow the process for patients without appointments should people unexpectedly turn up at base looking for clinical support .
To ensure prescriptions are in printers when the doctor is seeing patients but stored in drugs cupboard when on home visit or base is closed.
HOME VISITS - Duties and Responsibilities
To ensure that the Clinician is always transported to home visits safely and with all clinical kit available
To maintain contact with Despatch throughout home visits, informing them of any delays/detours and always ensuring they are contacted before returning to base.
Comprehensively complete vehicle checks as per the Driver and Vehicle Policy and the Vehicle and Kit Log before driving anywhere on shift.
Ensure full clinical kit is available on all home visits and that it is regularly checked and restocked in accordance with procedure.
To always use the TomTom satnav in the vehicle, even on short, local journeys
Support Clinician in locating the front door of properties and assist with carrying of kit
Report all arrival and departure times using the working times function of the TomTom
Provide an escort into the patients home at the request of the Clinician if you feel safe and comfortable doing so. Never witness a consultation, remain in the hall/by front door and be available as required
Record all drugs/sundries dispensed out of the vehicles using relevant stock control recording method and restock as required.
Record details of home visits on Vehicle and Kit log.
Maintain security of vehicle at all times.
To always abide by the rules of the Highway Code and the Driver and Vehicle Policy.

As a GP in Presteigne, you will deliver patient-centred General Medical Services and help shape new models of rural primary care. 1. KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
Purpose of the Post and General Responsibilities
- To provide General Medical Services to residents in Presteigne, Mid Powys and to provide service, support and advice aimed at developing excellence in general medical services to the community.
- This role will provide Salaried GP cover. This GP cover will consist of:
GP/Clinical Practice & Operational Delivery
- Deliver a first-class clinical service, ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care.
- Provide direct clinical care through triage, face-to-face consultations, telephone/video consultations, and home visits.
- Promote evidence-based practice and clinical excellence.
- Contribute to innovative solutions for rural and urgent care within Powys.
- Embrace and promote the multidisciplinary team model, including remote consultation options.
- Take delegated responsibility for specific areas within the Quality Improvement Framework.
- Ensure compliance with National guidelines, National Planning Frameworks, and professional standards.

- Prescribe in line with local and national guidance, following Powys Teaching Health Board protocols.

Admin Tasks / Record keeping

As a GP in Presteigne, you will deliver patient-centred General Medical Services and help shape new models of rural primary care. This is more than a clinical role - its an opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking team enhancing primary, urgent care in rural settings. Youll play a vital role in supporting practice resilience, continuity of care, and improving health outcomes for local communities.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity, if desired, to become a GP Member at Shropdoc, supporting career development through the delivery of Out-of-Hours GP care across our wider service.

1. KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
Purpose of the Post and General Responsibilities
- To provide General Medical Services to residents in Presteigne, Mid Powys and to provide service, support and advice aimed at developing excellence in general medical services to the community.
- This role will provide Salaried GP cover. This GP cover will consist of:
GP/Clinical Practice & Operational Delivery
- Deliver a first-class clinical service, ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care.
- Provide direct clinical care through triage, face-to-face consultations, telephone/video consultations, and home visits.
- Promote evidence-based practice and clinical excellence.
- Contribute to innovative solutions for rural and urgent care within Powys.
- Embrace and promote the multidisciplinary team model, including remote consultation options.
- Take delegated responsibility for specific areas within the Quality Improvement Framework.
- Ensure compliance with National guidelines, National Planning Frameworks, and professional standards.
- Adhere to all Shropdoc and Practice policies and contractual requirements.
Prescribing
- Prescribe in line with local and national guidance, following Powys Teaching Health Board protocols.
- Promote generic prescribing wherever clinically appropriate.
Long-term Condition Management
- Provide effective management of long-term conditions (LTCs).
- Offer clinical supervision for other staff involved in LTC reviews and management.
Admin Tasks / Record keeping
- Complete administrative tasks promptly, including referrals, repeat prescriptions, and associated duties.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in line with best practice and regulatory guidance.
Governance and Risk Management
- Follow best practice through clinical guidelines and audit processes.
- Support continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice.
- Contribute to clinical governance, including audits, training, and policy development.
- Promote a culture of learning from complaints, incidents, and research.
- Assist the Lead GP and Head of Primary Care with:
- Monitoring quality and appropriateness of care.
- Peer support and review.
- Clinical protocol development.
- Incident and complaint investigations.
Leadership and Development
- Complete appraisal and revalidation processes accurately and on time.
- Provide clinical leadership during duty sessions, promoting high standards of care.
- Mentor and support Doctors in training, Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals.
- Participate in CPD activities and encourage lifelong learning within the team.
- Support practice development and innovation, including new technologies and service models.
