Main duties of the job

As a Trainee Advanced Practitioner, you will develop your ability to assess, diagnose, manage and review patients presenting with a wide range of clinical conditions.

The role will include:

• Providing high-quality, patient-centred clinical care.
• Undertaking comprehensive clinical assessments.
• Developing advanced clinical examination and diagnostic skills.
• Managing patients presenting with acute and chronic conditions.
• Developing autonomous clinical decision-making skills within your scope of practice.
• Working collaboratively with GPs, Practice Nurses, Paramedics and the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Undertaking home visits as required.
• Developing skills in the assessment and management of undifferentiated and complex presentations.
• Participating in clinical supervision and reflective practice.
• Attending university and completing all academic requirements associated with the Advanced Practitioner programme.
• Taking an active role in your own professional development.
• Working within professional, legal and practice guidelines at all times.

As your training progresses, you will be supported to develop increasing levels of autonomy and responsibility appropriate to your level of competence and experience.

Essential

• Registered Practice Nurse or Paramedic.

Desirable

• General Practice experience is preferred but not essential. We would particularly welcome applications from experienced Practice Nurses or Paramedics who are keen to develop their careers within Primary Care.

Physician Associate

Shevington Surgery is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Physician Associate to join our friendly and supportive clinical team.

We are looking for a Physician Associate with a minimum of 2 years' experience working in secondary care who is looking to develop their career within General Practice and Primary Care.

Previous experience in General Practice is preferred but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with a strong secondary-care background who are keen to develop their knowledge and experience within a busy Primary Care setting.

The successful candidate will be fully supported by our 7 GP Partners, who have extensive experience in training, education and developing clinicians. You will have access to regular clinical support, supervision and guidance as you develop your Primary Care skills.

You will also be joining an established team of two Physician Associates already working within the practice, providing an excellent opportunity for peer support, shared learning and collaboration.

The Physician Associate will work as part of the multidisciplinary clinical team, providing high-quality care to patients presenting with a broad range of acute and chronic conditions.

Duties will include:

• Assessing, diagnosing and managing patients within the Physician Associate scope of practice.
• Taking comprehensive clinical histories and performing appropriate clinical examinations.
• Developing and implementing appropriate management plans.
• Managing patients with a range of acute and chronic conditions.
• Recognising and appropriately escalating patients who require further assessment or specialist intervention.
• Working collaboratively with GPs, Practice Nurses, Paramedics, Physician Associates and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Supporting the delivery of safe and effective patient care within the practice.
• Undertaking appropriate follow-up and review of patients.
• Contributing to clinical audits, quality improvement and service development.
• Maintaining accurate and timely clinical records.
• Participating in continuing professional development and supervision.
• Undertaking home visits where required.
• Working within professional, ethical and practice guidelines at all times.

Shevington Surgery is a busy and well-established GP practice in Wigan with a list size of approximately 13,700 patients.

We have 7 GP Partners, 2 Physician Associates and a strong, friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team.

Whilst we are a busy practice, we pride ourselves on our positive team culture. We work collaboratively and support one another, with a strong emphasis on providing high-quality patient care and supporting the professional development of our staff.

Our GP Partners have extensive experience in training and education, and this is an important part of our practice ethos. The successful candidate will be fully supported by our Partners and wider clinical team, with appropriate supervision, guidance and opportunities to develop their clinical knowledge and skills.

With two Physician Associates already established within the practice, the successful candidate will also benefit from working alongside colleagues in the same professional role. This provides valuable opportunities for peer support, shared learning and collaboration.
