An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the newly established Community Services Division at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as our Divisional Medical Director.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced and inspirational medical leader to help shape, develop and lead a newly formed Division serving communities across St Helens, Knowsley, Halton, Southport, Formby and West Lancashire. The role offers the opportunity to influence the future direction of community healthcare, strengthen integration across health and care systems and champion the highest standards of patient care, quality and safety.
The newly established Community Services Division brings together a broad range of services delivered closer to people's homes and communities, creating a significant opportunity to improve patient outcomes, reduce health inequalities and develop innovative models of care in partnership with primary care, local authorities, voluntary sector organisations and NHS partners.

Main duties of the job
The role will be professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer. The post holder will work closely with the Divisional Nursing Director, Divisional Director of Operations and wider Community Services leadership team to provide strategic, professional and operational leadership across the Division. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe and effective services whilst driving continuous improvement in patient experience, clinical outcomes and professional standards.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Surgeon join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary care within the Mersey Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery unit based at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a whole-time post with a weekly peripheral site clinical commitment.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will have a responsibility for the running of their clinical service, integrating this with the department as a whole and ensuring appropriate communication with general practitioners, managers, and hospital committees. The appointee will be responsible for contributing to the achievement of relevant aspects if the Trusts contractual obligations and business plans.
The appointee will be expected to ensure their clinical service is in accordance with the principles of Clinical Governance which must include appropriate clinical audit, clinical targets, key performance indicators (KPI's), evidence-based practice, continued personal educational and professional development.The post holder will also be expected to comply with existing appraisal procedures, job planning and revalidation procedures.

Job summary
This post is for a new Consultant in Palliative Medicine. This is a new 10 session role, working alongside the current 0.6 FTE Clinical Lead for PEOLC in Whiston/MWL. The FT lead took partial retirement in February 2026 hence these the existing 6 session post.
It is a key leadership role with joint responsibility for the strategic and clinical care in MWL around PEOLC. The post holder will ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and patient centred specialist palliative care, while also contributing to clinical governance, education and service development. They will work in collaboration with the workforce in the other areas of MWL, and with the local Hospices and Community SPC Teams.

What will you be doing?

This post is for a Locum Consultant General Radiologist. This is a 12 month post full-time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Doctor to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. Main duties of the job
To maintain the expanding workload of the department including supporting the extensive department input into MDT meetings, to meet waiting list targets and to enable the introduction of extended working.
To contribute to the general workload and take part in the diagnostic general on call rota.
The department receives 3-5 Radiology SpRs from the Northwest School of Radiology Training Scheme. All consultants are involved in supervision and training of trainees both on site.
2 SPA is towards individual Core CPD for appraisal and revalidation, Audit and Clinical Governance, Mandatory training and departmental meetings and teaching and Clinical Supervision

- Order interpreters for patients attending outpatient clinics by e-mail.
- To arrange patient appointments by telephone/letter ensuring that patients are offered choice of date with reasonable notice in accordance with the current operating framework and the NHS constitution.

- Responsible for informing the Radiology/Cardio-Respiratory Department of additional clinics arranged.
- Take into account daily cancellations and alterations, contacting patients by telephone explaining in a polite and courteous manner reasons for cancellation. To follow the correct procedures and processes for all cancelled appointments and DNAs to ensure dates are re-booked and/or removed according to the Trust Patient Access Policy, escalating any issues.
- Manage Netcall reminder report ensuring outpatient slots are backfilled maximising outpatient capacity.
- Advise patients of all available options with empathy and discretion particularly when dealing with aggrieved patients regarding outpatient waiting list enquires. Significant conversations including outcomes are to be recorded on PAS.
- Monitor and maintain the Patient Target Lists (PTL) for each speciality and individual Consultants, including the maintenance of the RTT and liaise with Directorate Managers on a regular basis.
- Monthly validation of 18 week (PTL) for each speciality to maintain 18 weeks, ensure patient availability and/or still require appointment.
- Monitor and maintain the Outpatient waiting list reports for individual specialities ensuring that all patients are booked in accordance with Multi-Disciplinary Team guidelines and Department of Health guidelines.
- Book linked appointments foe ENT and Ophthalmology prior to appointment date.
- Complete data checks on computerised systems (PAS, NHS e-referral, EDMS) amending any changes e.g. appointment procedures, patient details, patient/hospital cancellations or time changes due to allergy risks etc.
- Complete Netcall cancellation report, slot availability report within ers, sostenuto, net account on a daily basis.
- ASI report managed independently within DOH guidelines for Paper Switch Off Compliance

Ensure that any documentation in relation to the patient is sent to the Health Records Department to be scanned onto EDMS (Electronic Document Management System). To file all correspondence and documents, as required, thereby maintaining an effective filing system.
