Job summary
For entry to the Speciality Doctor grade, applicants must have at least four years of post-registration training, of which at least two years must be in a speciality training programme in Emergency Medicine (for example, ACCS) or must be able to demonstrate comparable skills and competencies.
The job title of the post is Speciality Doctor in Emergency Medicine. The post is paid on the Speciality Doctor scale. Applicants wishing to work part-time would be considered.
Job Plans are worked around a twenty four person rota. The rota provides 10 PA in total with a split of 9 DCC and 1 SPA.
The post holder will be encouraged to advance their career in Emergency Medicine and will be supported in obtaining postgraduate qualifications. The department also has experience of supporting doctors in CESR (previously Article 14) applications, and again this would be encouraged for suitable experienced doctors.
Duties of the Post
This is a CESR training post and as such the post holder will get a dedicated educational supervisor to take them through the CESR programme to ensure submission for successful CESR application. Secondments will be provided in the following specialties: Paediatrics, Acute Medicine, Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine. There will be an annual ARCP conducted in house to evaluate progress and set goals for the next twelve months.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be expected to undertake full clinical duties including the running of clinics or assessing and managing acutely unwell patients, along with patients presenting with injuries both major and minor. The care may very occasionally include initial resuscitation where appropriate. The postholder will be expected to manage the caseload within urgent treatment and organise immediate management and plan for discharge or where required referral for follow up. The referral could be to GPs to an appropriate specialist team for continued hospital care or to other services.

As well as the nursing team. The department also supports the education of medical students from UCLAN and Lancaster Universities. We are a teaching unit providing teaching for all grades of staff.
You will be assigned an educational supervisor who will meet with you regularly to ensure your educational needs are met whilst you are with us and we encourage Junior Clinical Fellows to undertake the Life Support Courses whilst you are with us. To aid this you will have access to a study leave budget. There is simulation training which is run on the shop floor and that you will be encouraged to attend.

The referral could be to GPs to anappropriate specialist team for continued hospital care or to other services.
The postholder will be expected to follow the various guidelines and protocols issued in the department. Inthe case of major trauma cases, cardiac arrests and critically ill patients attending the department, thepostholder will be expected to act in a team leadership role, following appropriate life support guidelines.
Postholders would be expected to gain and maintain certification in ALS, ATLS etc and APLS or recognisedequivalents to these courses.In light of the changing work practices, the work programme may need to be varied in the future. This willbe done only after consultation with the incumbent of the post. As duty hours require the incumbent beingpresent in the department, no on-call or residential accommodation is offered with this post.In exceptional circumstances, additional duties outside normal rostered hours may be required to ensurethe continuation of essential patient care. So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the aboveduties, the postholder may be required to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.An educational mentor will be provided process to make sure that the professional and personaldevelopment of the postholder are maintained. The Consultants will act as educational mentor and willmeet with the postholder on a regular basis.There is the opportunity to undertake CESR training with the department and as such the post holder willget a dedicated mentor to take them through the CESR programme to ensure submission for successfulCESR application. The postholder will also be expected toparticipate in the educational programme and attend relevant postgraduate courses in accordance with thelocal and national CME requirements.The postholder will also be expected to participate in the departmental audit programme. Clinical researchwill be encouraged.
Emergencies and Unforeseen Circumstances
The postholder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseencircumstances, without additional remuneration at the request of the Clinical Lead or the on-call Consultant.It has been agreed between the professions and the Department that while the postholder accepts that theywill perform such duties, it is stressed that additional commitments arising under this heading areexceptional and the postholder should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged period oron a regular basis.It is the responsibility of the Clinical Lead to determine whether a particular situation can be described asan emergency.
Study and Training
Postgraduate study is encouraged. In-service training is available and clinical meetings are held in theDepartment. There is an excellent postgraduate medical centre at Royal Blackburn Hospital whichprovides excellent library facilities and an active teaching programme, including guest speakers, clinicalconferences and departmental tutorials. Study leave is awarded at the discretion of the Clinical Lead.
The Department
The Emergency Department is located at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital a newly built PFI hospitalwith fully integrated Paediatric and adult areas with Resus, PACS system, and fully supported by CCU andITU Assessments Units, X-ray, CT and MRI facilities. There is a hospital trauma team and cardiac arrest ismanaged in house.In additional to the main Emergency Department which takes primarily ambulance cases, there are 2Urgent Treatment Centres catering to minor injuries and illnesses assessing both walk-in and appointedpatients. One is situated in Burnley General Hospital and other co-located within the Emergency Department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.The Emergency Department has an 8 bedded resuscitation area (with 1 bed designated for paediatricpatients) with 42 major cubicles. The two Urgent Treatment Centres have examination cubicles, staff base,separate adult and children waiting areas, reception and all facilities to see minor injury and illness. Thedepartment receives excellent support from the Intensive Care Unit, Medical Assessment Unit and SurgicalAssessment Unit, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, ENT and Maxillofacial Surgery. Serious burns andneurosurgical patients are transferred to the regional centre at Preston or Manchester.The Departments have annual attendances of approximately 170,000 across the three sites.The Acute Medical Unit has been established both for medical patients referred from the EmergencyDepartment and Urgent Treatment Centre and for direct GP referrals. Patients who are referred by theirGP to other specialties are ordinarily directed straight to the appropriate ward or assessment area. Thereare ambulatory medical and surgical day emergency care units.There are currently 18 Consultants and two Specialists who work on the Consultant Rota in post in the unit.1. This post is subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service for Specialty Doctors England 2021. The appointee will be required to live within 10 miles or 30 minutes travel time by car from the RoyalBlackburn Hospital. The Trust will reimburse certain expenses relating to removal and relocation whenrequired, the expenses refunded shall reflect actual costs involved but will not exceed £8,000. If relocationis required this must be discussed as interview.

Clinically coded data is used to record hospital activity for financial accountability purposes. Diseases and other health information can be extracted, measured and monitored in order to inform service planning and development, with the ultimate aim of improving the health and health care of the users of the Trust's services.
Clinical Coders areresponsible for the accurate and timely recording of clinical data to support the Trust's clinical and business requirements and for regional and National Health Service statistics.
The post holder will be required to work as a member of a team to provide an efficient clinical coding service working to established systems and procedures.
They will screen medical records, discharge summaries and other data sources to extract clinical information relevant to a patient's episode of care and turn this into structured diagnostic and procedure data using International Classification of Diseases (ICD 10) and Office of the Population of Censuses and Surveys (OPCS 4) coding standards.
They will also communicate and liaise effectively with clinicians, nursing staff, other professionals and departments, both internal and external, across all specialties.

The Estates department at Westmorland General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical and mechanical engineers, creative building craftpersons, and dedicated support staff.
We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic person to join us.
You should be experienced, time served and suitably qualified in mechanical fitting or plumbing and fault finding.
Main duties of the job
A mechanical fitting/manufacturing/Heating background, particularly within healthcare, would be advantageous but not essential - as specific training will be provided.
This is a highly rewarding role. Working under the Mechanical Team Leader, the successful candidate will embark on a challenging adventure, safely, efficiently, and with patient and staff safety at the heart of their focus.
Working as part of a team, and individually, you will be required to carry out mechanical maintenance work within acute and community NHS properties. This will be on heating and pressure systems, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, medical gases, and other healthcare related mechanical services.
The successful candidate must be able to self-motivate, work relatively unsupervised, and be a good communicator on all levels. Flexible working will be required where you will assist other trades and undertake other tasks to maintain the building services.
The successful candidate will be required to join an on-call team to provide an out of hours emergency response - after an initial training period.

Job summary
The role of the Medical Secretary is to provide a comprehensive secretarial, administration and information service to the Consultant in respect of his/her NHS work and to the supporting medical team.
To provide a secretarial service: accurately producing from digital dictation system, patient related correspondence /reports/discharges of a sensitive and complex nature, using appropriate software and within specific timescales
Main duties of the job
- Open and prioritise correspondence (which is often of a highlysensitive and confidential nature) on behalf of consultant ensuring thaturgent correspondence receives prompt attention.
- Process case-notes of patients discharged from hospital; follow through ongoing care plans as indicated in notes. Allocate notes to relevant clinician for dictation or ensure that any standard letters are completed as appropriate. Where standard letters have been generated at ward level, ascertain from case-notes whether any supplementary letter/action is required and deal with appropriately. Ensure that follow up appointments or referrals to other specialties are arranged where necessary.
- Ensure that relevant investigation/ results received after patient's discharge are communicated to GP's where appropriate, particularly where treatment may be required.
- Ensure that discharge summaries and other time-sensitive information are dictated and typed within the designated time limits.
- Receive, manage and prioritise telephone and personal queries, complaints, messages and information from patients, relatives, General Practitioners, Consultants and other medical staff and external organisations on behalf of consultant and clinical team. Deal with queries relating to the medical and social welfare of patients and relatives in a sensitive manner, referring to medical staff or other Healthcare Professionals where appropriate.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust was formed in 2003 from the merger of Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley NHS Trust and the Burnley Hospitals NHS Trust. East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust provides a caring service to a population of approximately 520,000.

About us
As a nurse hysteroscopist, the postholder will be involved in the delivery of FDS hysteroscopy services to all patients attending the department. They will be able to organise their workload efficiently and liaise with referrers and other staff to optimise service delivery.
The Postholder will work unsupervised in delivering all aspects of hysteroscopy, act independently, understand scan findings and produce written reports on examinations performed. Excellent communication skills are essential for this role due to the need to deliver highly sensitive and potentially upsetting information to both patients and relatives.
The hysteroscopy practitioner will also assist in the supervision of students, newly qualified staff, and other professional groups. We expect our hysteroscopy practitioner to actively help with governance and value their input on how we can achieve the best diagnostic outcomes.
They will ensure collaborative working across the MDT, with General Practitioners, partner professionals, and other agencies.
The post holder will give expert clinical advice, practice clinically and autonomously, and implement care that requires specialist assessment, knowledge, and clinical skills.

Speciality Doctor in Emergency Medicine
For entry to the Speciality Doctor grade, applicants must have at least four years of post-registration training, of which at least two years must be in a speciality training programme in Emergency Medicine (for example, ACCS), or must be able to demonstrate comparable skills and competencies.

Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a large, highly supportive and enthusiastic paediatric team providing inpatient and outpatient General paediatric services across East Lancashire. The paediatric team are leading members in new ways of working in East Lancashire and are involved pilots of transformational models of care linking in with GP's and other primary care health, education, social care and third sector professionals. We are also involved in regional redesign as part of the integrated care system developments in Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Main duties of the job
The main clinical duties of this post are in general paediatrics. The Consultant Paediatricians have recently reconfigured their working patterns to participate in a 1:8.5 Consultant of the week system which is split into 2 half weeks, working a block from Monday - Thursday, and a block Friday - Sunday. During the 'hot week' there are 2 Consultants of the week who are both ward based responsible for the ward, COAU, ED emergency calls, and inpatient safeguarding. All consultants also participate in cover on the COAU from 1pm - 10pm leading a team of registrars, junior doctors and Advanced Clinical Practitioners to manage ambulatory patients and review GP and ED referrals. This is covered on a 1:17 rota. Finally all consultants partake in non resident on call. Two consultants are non resident on call at weekends, with 1 consultant on-call overnight.Overall frequency on non resident on calls is1:17. All on-calls and COAU shifts are prospectively covered.
