Job summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Virology Biomedical Scientist to join the Microbiology Department at Bedford Hospital.
Our laboratory is equipped with an extensive range of modern platforms, including the Beckman Coulter Microscan, BioMrieux BacT/Alert Virtuo, Cepheid GeneXpert, BD MGIT, BioMrieux VIDAS, BioFire TORCH and FilmArray, Roche Cobas 6800, Bruker MALDI-TOF, BD MAX, Stratec Gemini, Roche Cobas 8000, and the DS2 system.
Following our merger with the Luton Microbiology Department, we now provide a comprehensive diagnostic service for Bedford Hospital, Luton and Dunstable Hospital, and local GP practices. The department is UKAS-accredited to ISO 15189:2022 and is recognised by the IBMS as an approved training laboratory.
In this role, you will be a key member of the senior Microbiology team, with a primary focus on Virology and Quality.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will serve as a Senior Biomedical Scientist, working closely with the Laboratory Manager and the Quality team to support the Virology service through robust quality processes, documentation management, and staff training, ensuring continued compliance with UKAS accreditation standards. Applicants must demonstrate substantial experience with Quality Management Systems, a strong understanding of quality principles, and a proven ability to train staff across all grades.
In this role, the post holder will support the senior Virology team by maintaining and developing departmental documentation, monitoring and managing non-conformances, conducting audits, implementing quality improvements, and delivering training. They will also assist the Laboratory Manager with the operational running of the department, contributing to the implementation, monitoring, and review of contractual requirements while ensuring service continuity and effective risk mitigation.

We are seeking an experienced Biomedical Scientist to join the Microbiology Department at Bedford Hospital on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave.
The laboratory is equipped with a wide range of modern microbiology and diagnostic technologies, including bioMrieux BacT/ALERT VIRTUO, Beckman Coulter MicroScan, bioMrieux VIDAS, BioFire TORCH, Roche cobas 6800, Cepheid GeneXpert, BD MAX, Bruker MALDI-TOF, DS2 and BD MGIT.
The laboratory provides a comprehensive range of microbiological investigations to Bedford Hospital, Luton and Dunstable Hospital, and surrounding GP practices. The department is UKAS accredited to ISO 15189:2022 and is an IBMS-approved training laboratory, supporting the education and development of biomedical science staff.
As a member of the Microbiology Team, you will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, efficient and patient-focused microbiology service. You will perform a range of microbiological analyses and investigations, providing accurate and timely results to support the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as a Biomedical Scientist, performing a range of microbiological techniques and investigations to support the accurate and timely diagnosis of infectious diseases.
Following completion of the required training and competency assessments, the post holder will be expected to participate in the department's shift working arrangements, which will include working weekends and bank holidays, as well as participating in the on-call service where required.
The department is progressing towards a 24-hour, 7-day microbiology service, and the post holder will be expected to work flexibly as part of this developing 24/7 service provision.

Job summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to join the Microbiology Department at Bedford Hospital on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave.
The laboratory is equipped with a wide range of modern microbiology and molecular diagnostic platforms, including Beckman Coulter MicroScan, bioMrieux BacT/ALERT VIRTUO, Cepheid GeneXpert, BD MGIT, bioMrieux VIDAS, BioFire TORCH and FilmArray, Roche cobas 6800, Bruker MALDI-TOF, BD MAX, Stratec Gemini, MAST Uri System and DS2.
Following the merger with the Luton Microbiology Department, the service provides a comprehensive range of microbiology investigations to Bedford Hospital, Luton and Dunstable Hospital, and surrounding GP practices. The department is UKAS accredited to ISO 15189:2012 and is an IBMS-approved training laboratory, supporting the development and training of future biomedical scientists.
As a member of the Microbiology Senior Team, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving quality standards, staff training and service development. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the department to ensure the delivery of a high-quality, efficient and safe microbiology service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as a Senior Biomedical Scientist within the Microbiology Department, supporting the Laboratory Manager and Senior Management Team in the effective delivery of the service.
Applicants should have significant experience in Microbiology, a strong understanding of quality management processes, and proven experience in training and supporting staff across all grades.
The post holder will assist the Laboratory Manager with the day-to-day operational management of the department, including the implementation, monitoring and review of relevant contracts and service requirements. They will contribute to maintaining service continuity, quality and patient safety, while proactively identifying and mitigating operational risks.

Job summary
The Emergency Department at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital is one of the busiest in the region. Due to Luton's unique location we see injuries from both urban and rural settings. The department is made up of several locations including Adult ED, Paediatric ED and Minor injuries, with an onsite GP service. Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our established Diabetes and Endocrinology Team at the L&D Hospital as a full time Diabetologist and Endocrinologist.
The specialty commitment of this post includes the provision of specialist and general outpatient clinics, consultant to consultant referrals, GP Advice and Guidance and MDT participation. The post holder will also be expected to participate in General Internal Medicine (GIM) and In-reach rota. This responsibility is shared with other departmental colleagues.
Sub-speciality interests relevant to Diabetes/ Endocrinology will be considered as is an enthusiasm for teaching, audit and research.
The Diabetes service at the L&D is led by Dr Wong with support from Dr Soo, Professor Banerjee, Dr Lim, and Dr Alraheem. The team offers a full range of adult diabetes services and work closely with other specialists often in joint clinics providing MDT care for young adults, pregnancy including gestational diabetes, diabetic foot disease, insulin pump and elderly care.
Professor Banerjee, supported by Dr Soo, Dr Wong, Dr Lim, and Dr Alraheem currently provide the endocrine service. The department has facilities for dynamic testing and radiological diagnostic facilities and provide a range of sub-speciality clinics including hypertension and pregnancy care.

Main duties of the job
The main duties and responsibilities of the post include:
To participate in the provision of a high quality out-patient service, some clinics will have dedicated Specialist Trainee support

The successful candidates will work across our main MRI department and mobile MRI service, using both Philips and GE MRI scanners. The role will support extended service delivery, including 11-hour shifts, helping us provide high-quality, patient-centred care across a wide range of MRI examinations.
We are looking for motivated, flexible and enthusiastic MRI Radiographers who are able to work to a high standard, support service improvement, participate in audit, and contribute positively to the development of the department. You will also be expected to support junior staff, students and the wider multidisciplinary team, and to deputise for the Modality Manager when required.
