Job responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• Undertake face-to-face, telephone, and online consultations for patients presenting with a wide range of medical conditions.
• Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic illnesses.
• Prescribe medications appropriately and safely in accordance with national and local guidelines.
• Provide health promotion, preventative care, and lifestyle advice.
• Manage patients with long-term conditions and complex healthcare needs.
• Arrange appropriate investigations and interpret results.
• Make referrals to secondary care and community services as required.
• Provide home visits where clinically necessary.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical records.

• Process clinical correspondence, pathology results, and hospital letters.
• Complete referrals, reports, fit notes, insurance forms, and other relevant documentation.
• Ensure clinical coding is accurate and up to date.
• Contribute to achieving Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) targets and other contractual requirements.

• Work in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice guidance.
• Participate in annual appraisal, revalidation, and continuing professional development activities.
• Maintain GMC registration and professional indemnity requirements.
• Participate in practice meetings and educational sessions.
• Engage in clinical audit and quality improvement activities.

• Work collaboratively with GPs, nursing staff, administrative colleagues, and wider multidisciplinary teams.
• Support a culture of learning, respect, and continuous improvement.
• Contribute positively to the day-to-day functioning and development of the practice.

• Fully qualified General Practitioner with entry on the GMC GP Register.
• Licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
• Excellent clinical and communication skills.
• Commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Understanding of clinical governance and quality improvement.

• Experience working within UK General Practice.
• Interest in service development or quality improvement.

Qualifications

Essential

• Qualified GP MRCGP Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
• Full GMC registration
• National Performers List registration (England)
• Independent prescriber
• Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU)
• Evidence of current validation
• Evidence of last appraisal
• Eligibility to practice in the UK independently

Experience

Essential

• Experience of working in a primary care environment
• Experience of continued professional development
• Experience of QOF and clinical audit
• Experience of medicines management
• Experience of ICB initiatives
• General understanding of the primary care contact
• Outstanding level of clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with that of an experienced GP
