CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The post holder will:

• In accordance with the practice timetable, undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, urgent appointments, telephone consultations, clinical queries, triage and clinical decision-making.
• Assess, diagnose and manage acute presentations and same day care requirements within agreed clinical pathways.
• Authorise and process repeat prescriptions and respond to associated prescription queries.
• Complete referral letters (NHS and private)

• Liaise with managers to support in the drafting and checking of Rotas for the GPs, Nurses and Acute Care Team, making sure they include all relevant dates for annual leave, meetings, training, and educational half days.

Clinical Care

Provide appropriate care in the assessment and management of patients with a full range of healthcare problems including acute illnesses and chronic disease management.

Participation in teaching and training:

The Rycote practice places a strong emphasis on both undergraduate and postgraduate education, having been a teaching and training practice for many years. We currently have four GP trainers and take GP registrars from both the Oxford and Aylesbury schemes. We are unique in taking both 5th year and 1st year graduate-entry course (GEC) medical students from Oxford and occasionally students from other medical schools. Tutors are amongst the salaried GP team.We aim to develop teaching and training across all three sites, and Watlington will be hosting GEC students from October 2026.

All GPs assist in their education and supervision of allied health professionals, such as nursing and ARRS teams as required. GPs are given protected time to supervise 5th year medical students and de-brief registrars.

The practice participates in a programme of Protected Time for Learning (10 afternoons per annum) and all GPs contribute to these sessions. A sessional renumeration is offered to salaried GP's in attendance on a non working day.

Meetings and Administration:

Salaried GPs are invited to participate in and contribute to the Rycote management agenda at all practice-wide meetings including:

Job Summary:

To assist with the provision of nursing services to patients attending the practice and assisting the nurses and GPs in the provision of general and specialist medical services.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
• Maintain and clean equipment used by the nurses and GPs according to the practice Infection Control Policy
• Maintain GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
• Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by a clinician
• Recording heights, weights, blood pressure and other measurements of patients as required
• Obtaining specimens e.g. urine, testing as instructed and completing appropriate laboratory forms
• Carry out phlebotomy duties and prepare blood samples and forms for transporting to the appropriate laboratory
• Smoking Cessation (training given)
• Health Promotion
• Conduct NHS Health Checks and Initial Chronic Disease Checks
• Answer telephone in treatment rooms, take, record and transmit messages
• Undertake housekeeping duties including, general tidiness and cleanliness of treatment and GP rooms, preparation of laundry and linen for surgeries
• Maintain accurate records, utilising IM & T where appropriate, ensuring the senior nurse on duty is advised of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
• Chase up and record all the childrens immunisation status
• Keep waiting areas and staff room tidy

Duties and Responsibilities as a Phlebotomist:

• Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample
• Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures
• Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
• Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
• Checking patient identification against GP/Nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible
• Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure
• Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
• Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
• Notifying the GP/Nurse of any significant patient issues
• Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team

Job Summary:

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical Responsibilities:

• In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
• Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
• Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
• Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
• In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
• Providing counselling and health education
• Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
• Collecting data for audit purposes
• Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions
• Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
