Job summary

If you are passionate about supporting children and young people to improve their emotional wellbeing and resilience, we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for an Emotional Wellbeing Practitioner to join our Derby Early Intervention Targeted Support Service. You will support children, young people and families, across the Derbyshire county, through early intervention, advice and goal focused emotional wellbeing support across community and educational settings.

In this rewarding role, you will carry out emotional wellbeing assessments, deliver evidence based interventions and provide guidance to help children and young people access the right support at the right time. You will work closely with families, schools and partner agencies to build positive outcomes and reduce barriers to engagement.

You will also contribute to wellbeing promotion activities, deliver training and support wider service development within a collaborative and values led team. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people will be central to everything you do.

Main duties of the job

You know that emotional wellbeing support is about more than ticking boxes. Its about helping young people feel safe enough to open up, understood enough to trust you and supported enough to believe things can improve.

Essential criteria

  • Relevant qualification in emotional wellbeing, youth work, psychology or counselling
  • Experience delivering emotional health or pastoral wellbeing support to children and young people
  • Experience working therapeutically with children and young people with low level emotional health needs
  • Experience supporting children, young people and families to build their skills, knowledge and confidence in managing mild mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, capacity and consent, including Gillick competence
  • Experience working with children, young people, families and a range of agencies and stakeholders
  • Ability to deliver therapeutic emotional wellbeing interventions with children and young people and provide advice and support to families
  • Ability to recognise, manage and respond appropriately to risk
  • Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills

Experience of monitoring emotional wellbeing outcomes, working within education or community settings, or supporting looked after children or other vulnerable groups would be great but aren't essential.

If you want to help young people feel stronger, more confident and less alone when life gets difficult, this is work you can feel proud of.
