Job summary
In-Patient Nursing Associate
- Hours: 37.5 per week (part time hours considered)
- Location: Peace Hospice, Watford
- Salary: Rennie Grove Peace Band 4 - £27,485 - £30,162 per annum (pro rata)

Main duties of the job
- Work 13 x 11.5 hour shifts on a monthly rota basis, with a 1-hour unpaid break
- Deliver high-quality Specialist Palliative and End of Life nursing care as part of the In-Patient unit multidisciplinary team.
- To support the Registered Nurse in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient centred care, ensuring a holistic approach that is sensitive and responsive to the patients ever changing needs.
- To ensure Rennie Grove Peace organisational vision and values are integral to the care delivered and role undertaken.
- As the named nurse provide and monitor the holistic nursing care for an allocated number of patients each shift.
- As a registered, associate nurse take responsibility and be accountable for your own actions or omissions, and to act in the best interests of your patients at all times.
- Recognise and work within the limits of their competence as defined by the NMC Code of Conduct for Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Associates.
- Acting as a Rennie Grove Peace ambassador within the community.

At Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, our unique care provides a lifeline of compassion and support to patients, carers, and families facing progressive life-limiting illness. We provide palliative and end of life care support, including bereavement services, within Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire and our patient services are available to adults, as well as patients transitioning into adult services (16 to 25 years.)
Bereavement support is offered for all ages to families of patients and those around them, as well as throughout the community, in schools and workplaces. We are proud to offer care in the place that best suits the individuals needs, whether that's at home, in a care home, in a short stay in our inpatient unit, out in the community, or in our purpose-built Living Well Centre facilities. As a hospice care charity, we have offered this support, free of charge, for over 40 years.
Our staff team of 340+ includes a wide range of patient-facing disciplines plus operational support based in Watford, Tring, St Albans, Chalfont St Giles and Berkhamsted. The Charity is now one of the larger UK hospice charities, reaching a GP population of 797,037 of whom 75% live in Hertfordshire and 25% in Buckinghamshire.

Job description
Job responsibilities
- To undertake a holistic needs assessment that explores individual patients, and their carers/families physical, emotional, spiritual, practical, welfare rights and, if appropriate, the families pre and post bereavement needs, using a variety of tools to support the process.
- To be responsible for patient assessment, planning of care, giving and supervising safe and compassionate care, and evaluating the effectiveness of care under the supervision of the registered nurse you are working with.
- To work with the registered nurse to develop, update and monitor the individualised care plans ensuring they are patient centred and support the individual identified patient needs.
- To be able to deliver basic and complex specialist palliative and nursing care interventions that are responsive to the individual patients requirements.
- Have knowledge of common palliative and EOLC symptoms and management strategies with experience to anticipate changes and knowledge of when to seek advice.
- To participate fully in team working and maintain effective communications between members of the multidisciplinary team both internally and with community teams to maintain seamless coordination of care.
- To follow all agreed clinical procedures and statutory regulations related to Medicine management. Reporting omissions and incidences promptly.
- To follow all agreed policies for manual handling, infection control, health and safety, ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff visiting and within the service.
- To ensure the PHC agreed patient information pathway is implemented, signposting and informing patients and their families/carers of the range of services information available to them, recording their accessible information needs,
- Demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability required to meet peoples needs related to safe care undertaking and documenting the required skin, mobility, nutrition & hydration, and mouthcare, nursing risk assessments.
