Senior Pathology Support Worker - Band 3

37.5 hours per week

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to develop your career within a busy and rewarding laboratory environment? We are seeking a Senior Pathology Support Worker to join our Bacteriology team.

In this role, you will play an important part in supporting the delivery of a comprehensive range of scientific and diagnostic services, working across a variety of areas within Bacteriology.

What you'll be doing

• Supporting the delivery of high-quality laboratory and diagnostic services within Bacteriology.
• Working across a range of laboratory areas, contributing to the efficient and effective processing of clinical specimens.
• Communicating professionally with hospital clinicians, GPs, healthcare professionals, patients and their representatives, as well as commercial suppliers.
• Operating sophisticated automated laboratory equipment and carrying out a range of manual laboratory techniques under appropriate supervision.
• Working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team to support the delivery of safe, accurate and timely diagnostic services.

Main duties of the job

• To participate in the provision of a comprehensive range of scientific and diagnostic services across a range of work areas within Bacteriology.
• The post holder is required to communicate with hospital clinicians, general practitioners, other healthcare professionals, patients and their representatives and commercial suppliers.
• The post holder will operate sophisticated, automated laboratory equipment and perform manual techniques under supervision.

• Experience of working in a relevant routine laboratory.

Qualifications

Essential

• Good basic education to include GCSE O Levels / A Levels or NVQ level 3 or IBMS Certificate of Achievement
• Willing to undergo relevant training

• Basic educational qualification in mathematics

Knowledge and skills

Essential

• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
• Observant of detail, ability to make basic judgement decisions
• Possess basic IT skills
• Ability to communicate clearly
