Job summary

This is an opportunity to join Cornwall's Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Programme whose centre is based at Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro. The Programme screens over 32,000 patients each year in 70+ locations throughout Cornwall in GP practices, community hospitals, and in a mobile screening unit.

Patients' retinae are screened using specialist ophthalmic cameras to capture digital images of the back of the eye to detect diabetic retinopathy. Images then undergo a stringent primary, secondary and tertiary grading process and those with referable retinopathy are referred by senior referral outcome graders into specialist ophthalmology clinics for a course of treatment after which they are discharged back to screening. This role will be based at RCHT and covers Central Cornwall initially with flexibility to cover other areas in the East and West.

Main duties of the job

To prevent the development of blindness through the early detection and treatment of diabetic retinopathy by providing a high-quality systematic screening and grading service throughout Cornwall.
