Job summary

Spilsby Surgery is looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable Care Navigator / Receptionist to join our busy and supportive team.

As one of the first people our patients meet or speak to, you will play an important role in helping patients access the right care and providing a welcoming, professional and compassionate service.

This is a varied role within a busy GP practice, combining reception, care navigation and general administrative duties. No two days are the same, and you will work closely with our GPs, nurses, dispensary and wider practice team.

Main duties of the job

As one of the first people our patients meet or speak to, you will play an important role in helping patients access the right care and providing a welcoming, professional and compassionate service.

This is a varied role within a busy GP practice, combining reception, care navigation and general administrative duties. No two days are the same, and you will work closely with our GPs, nurses, dispensary and wider practice team.

About the role

Your duties will include:

  • Welcoming patients and visitors and providing a friendly and professional reception service.
  • Answering telephone calls and dealing with patient enquiries promptly and courteously.
  • Helping patients access the most appropriate clinician, service or source of advice.
  • Processing appointment requests and supporting patients to use our online services and triage systems.
  • Booking, changing and cancelling appointments accurately.
  • Registering new patients and maintaining accurate patient information.
  • Updating patient records and entering information accurately onto the practice clinical system.
  • Responding to patient enquiries face-to-face, by telephone and electronically.
  • Supporting GPs, nurses and other members of the clinical team with administrative tasks.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with GDPR, Caldicott and practice policies.
  • Dealing sensitively and professionally with patients who may be distressed, anxious or frustrated.
  • Helping to maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming reception and waiting-room environment.
  • Participating in practice meetings, training and quality-improvement activities.
  • Undertaking other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.

  • Previous experience in a GP surgery or healthcare setting would be advantageous, as would experience of using our clinical computer system called SystmOne, although full training will be provided for the right candidate.
