Job summary

We are looking for a proactive and organised individual to support our administrative and reception team over the winter period.

This is a fixed-term opportunity and would suit someone looking to gain experience in a busy NHS primary care settingfor example, those considering a future career in medicine, nursing, or allied health professions.

Main duties of the job

  • Support processing of referrals and onward care pathways
  • Manage incoming clinical correspondence and documents
  • Update patient records accurately on EMIS
  • Assist with general administrative tasks to support the team
  • Supporting front line team with front desk and call centre.
  • Ensure timely and accurate handling of patient information

    Job responsibilities

    We are seeking a proactive and organised Administrative Assistant to support our busy GP practice over the summer period.

    This is a fixed-term role focused on supporting core administrative functions, particularly referrals and document workflow. It would suit someone looking to gain experience in a healthcare settingfor example, those considering a future career in medicine, nursing, or allied health professions.

    The post is temporary and will end in September 2026, with no expectation of extension.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support the processing of patient referrals, ensuring accuracy and timely completion
    • Manage incoming clinical correspondence (letters, reports, discharge summaries)
    • Update and maintain accurate patient records using the clinical system (EMIS)
    • File, scan, and code documents in line with practice protocols
    • Assist with general administrative duties to support the wider team
    • Liaise with clinical and administrative staff to ensure smooth workflow
    • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection standards at all times
